WITCH, WARRIOR, WOMAN
INTRODUCING OUR LATEST GALLERY ARTIST, VIVIEN THOMASON
4th – 31st October 2025

Vivien Thomason’s introductory exhibition at Artwave West, Witch, Warrior, Woman, is a fierce and luminous tribute to feminine power in all its forms – mythic, political, personal. Through richly layered abstract paintings, Thomason creates an arresting visual language that pulses with urgency, resistance, and emotional depth.
A North London-based artist and consummate colourist, Thomason turned to full-time painting after a long career in fashion. Her experience with texture, tone, and instinctive composition now drives her unique technique with liquid acrylics: swirling, dripping, and layering pigment into visceral fields of colour. Her paintings aren’t passive – they challenge, they confront, they speak.
The title Witch, Warrior, Woman reflects the themes that flow through her work: reclamation of power, feminine rage, survival, and the deep knowing carried in women’s bodies. Drawing inspiration from artists like Marlene Dumas, Frank Bowling, Gauguin and Odilon Redon, Thomason fuses expressive abstraction with the lyrical and the raw. Gothic undertones meet vibrant palettes, creating works that feel like spells – both protective and provocative.
There is darkness here, but there is also laughter. There is pain, but also fierce joy. Thomason’s paintings reject the binary, instead embracing complexity and contradiction, much like the women they honour.
Sitting alongside Vivien’s Feature Exhibition will be artworks by all our amazing women Gallery Artists.
