WATER – THE SUMMER EXHIBITION

This summer, Artwave West presents a group exhibition exploring the enduring presence of water as both subject and metaphor. Bringing together new works by Amy Albright, Ali Kippax, Suchi Chidambaram and Jeannette Hayes, the exhibition examines the ways in which pools, coastlines, tides and reflections shape our experience of the landscape and our connection to the natural world.

Water is a constant yet ever-changing force – calm and turbulent, reflective and transformative. Across the exhibition, each artist approaches this elemental theme through a distinct visual language, revealing its capacity to evoke memory, movement, light and emotion.

Amy Albright‘s paintings explore the quiet rhythms found in nature, where water becomes part of an intricate ecosystem of growth, flow and renewal. Her intuitive layering of colour and organic forms captures fleeting moments of stillness and the subtle patterns that emerge where land and water meet.

For Ali Kippax, the sea is a place of energy, immersion and contemplation. Her expressive paintings distil the shifting atmosphere of the coastline, where changing tides, weather and light create landscapes that are in perpetual motion. Through fluid marks and luminous colour, she evokes the restorative power of being close to the water’s edge.

Suchi Chidambaram responds to water as a source of movement and brilliance. In her shimmering coastal scenes, her vibrant compositions celebrate reflected light and the vitality of places shaped by water. Her paintings capture the optimism and immediacy of moments that feel both familiar and fleeting.

Jeannette Hayes PPPS completes the exhibition with bold, expressive landscapes in which water becomes an essential compositional force. Using simply her garden pond as inspiration, rich passages of colour and energetic mark-making suggest both the physical presence of water and its emotional resonance within the landscape.

Together, these four artists offer complementary perspectives on one of nature’s most compelling elements. From quiet pools to open seas, from reflective surfaces to restless tides, Water invites us to slow down, observe and reconnect with the landscapes that sustain and inspire us. The exhibition celebrates water not only as a defining feature of the British landscape, but as a universal symbol of change, continuity and life itself.
