TIDES OF EMOTION
A FEATURE EXHIBITION OF WORK BY ALI KIPPAX
7th – 28th June 2025

In this captivating exhibition, Ali Kippax invites us to experience the coastal landscape not as a fixed vista, but as a living, breathing presence. Her paintings, layered, intuitive, and deeply personal, chart the ever-changing intersection of land, sea, and emotion.
Works like Burning Sands and Days End are infused with the transient beauty of light and temperature, using rich, warm tones to convey the shimmer and heat of summer or the golden hush of evening. In contrast, Uncertainty and Woven Waters II explore the unpredictable forces of nature through textured layers and dynamic brushwork, reflecting the raw, shifting character of weather and tide.
Kippax’s deep affinity with the shoreline is evident in Gentle Rhythms and Division. The former offers a meditative stillness, rendered in delicate hues that trace the shoreline’s subtle transitions, while the latter captures the drama of surf colliding with land in sweeping, powerful forms. This duality – the calm and the chaotic – echoes throughout the exhibition.
With Intersection and Homing Instinct, the artist delves into memory and transformation. The ever-changing contours of sand shaped by tide mirror the inner shifts of recollection, while her emotional connection to place breathes vivid life into the canvas.
Together, these works form a compelling meditation on nature’s rhythms and personal resonance. Kippax doesn’t merely depict the coast; she interprets it – each painting a tactile response to place, time, and feeling. The result is a body of work that is as immersive as it is evocative.
The rest of the gallery space will be dedicated to our Gallery Artists so there is plenty of other paintings to view when you visit in addition to this special feature.
