STILL WATERS AND SILENT WINGS

A SOLO EXHIBITION OF WORK BY DONNA GOOLD

5th – 30th April 2025

‘Watermarks’ Oil on aluminium, 65cm x 135cm framed

Donna Goold’s latest exhibition invites viewers to experience a breath-taking evolution in her artistic journey, with an exquisite collection of new seascapes and encaustic mini paintings. In this collection, Donna demonstrates a masterful use of subtle earthy hues and soothing blues, creating a harmonious dialogue between nature’s landscapes and her unique artistic techniques.

The seascapes, rendered on aluminum, mark a departure from her previous works, with a more understated approach to colour. Donna blends soft, earthy tones with gentle blues, allowing the reflective surface of the aluminum to interact with light and imbue each piece with an ethereal, almost meditative quality. The combination of earthy hues—rich browns, and muted ochres, evokes the natural world in its quietest moments, while the blues, reminiscent of sea and sky, suggest both movement and tranquillity. The polished metal surface adds depth to the seascapes, giving them a fluid, shifting appearance as the viewer moves around them, creating an experience of the ocean’s ever-changing nature.

In addition to the seascapes, Donna’s new encaustic mini paintings of trees present another intimate connection to the natural world. Working with beeswax and pigment, she creates layered, textured works that evoke the tactile, organic nature of trees. What makes these miniatures even more enchanting is the recurring motif of murmuration—flocks of birds that swirl through the air in mesmerizing patterns. This dynamic imagery infuses the stillness of the trees with a sense of life and movement, a graceful reflection of nature’s fleeting beauty. Donna’s encaustic method captures the essence of these trees and birds in an almost otherworldly way, offering a tactile, immersive experience that invites quiet contemplation.

Together, these works showcase Donna’s evolving artistry, blending gentle colours, textured surfaces, and natural motifs to create a profound connection to the world around us.
