Relief Sculpture – 27th-29th November

Relief sculpture is significant in world art, from ancient times to the present day and continues as a means of creative expression. This workshop will equip you with the skills and knowledge to create your own cast relief artworks.

Modelling. You will learn about preparing the clay and equipment, techniques for transferring images to a bed of clay and how to model your relief, from blocking-out to modelling form, to fine detail.

Moulding. You will make a plaster waste mould of your relief. We’ll look at other mould making techniques and materials including the lost wax bronze casting process. 

Casting.  You will make a plaster cast of your relief using fine casting plaster You will learn how to remove the waste mould and clean the cast before moving on to colouring the cast. There’ll be a selection of colours and finishes to choose from.

All materials and equipment are provided (for an additional £30 paid directly to the tutor on the day) together with learning resources and information about health and safety and suppliers.
