Drawing into Abstract Painting -15th June
£50.00 – £60.00
Tutor: Claire Barnett SWac
Date: 15th June
Time: 10.30am – 4.00pm
Exploratory drawings have direct energy and freshness. Finding ways of getting that equivalent quality into the paint can seem elusive.
Explore mark-making, abstract art (drawing, painting, collage) with professional artist Claire Barnett in an experimental and supportive environment. No previous experience required, just a willingness to explore and be surprised. The aim of the workshops is to begin a creative process outside of the pressure of producing a “good result”, supporting students in learning how to research and what inspiration means, as well as the importance of looking and seeing, and how to start an artwork using different methods. It also aims to explore the freedom that can be found in making abstract art, in abandoning our need to control and how joyful and meditative that can be. Students will be invited to experiment, play and try out new things and to develop their own artistic language.
We will start the day by making quick sketches of the beautiful sea view at Felicity’s Farm Shop (Photographs will be provided in case of poor weather) students are encouraged to jot down notes. Back in the studio work will be developed using collage, paint and other materials to bring structure, light and movement to your work. You will leave the day with a number of compositions that can be developed into finalised paintings.
If for reasons beyond our control the class has to be cancelled, a full refund will be made.
