Capturing Nature en Plein Air –
6th – 8th August
Tutor: Claire Barnett
Date: 6th – 8th August
Time: 10.30am – 4.30am
For all Abilities: Beginners, Improvers & Advanced
This will be a special opportunity to immerse yourself in your practise and develop your work in both figurative and abstract directions.
This is going to be a transformational workshop in which we will allow our appreciation of nature and love of creativity to unfold in front of us with a series of artworks. I will support you in understanding composition and mark making to enable you to produce successful drawings in response to what you see. Through experimentation with colour and texture you will be able to create mood and atmosphere in your work.
We will be responding to shifting light and weather in the most beautiful and evocative of Dorset landscapes incorporating both sea and land including the glorious Golden Cap. This workshop involves working en plein air where through gestural drawing, photography, frottage and writing our own haiku we can dig deep and experiment in a joyful and expressive way.
This wonderful workshop will begin with a walk outside to observe nature first hand. Recording our journey, we will take photographs and collect source material which we will incorporate in our art working practice over the next few days.
On our return to the gallery we will work through various drawing and printmaking techniques to create a number of studies incorporating flora structures observed and recorded. We will explore different colour schemes using acrylic paint, watercolours, inks, lace and gesso. This will be a wonderful introduction to a number of mediums and an opening of our hearts to the expressive nature of sea, land, floral and botanical studies through the development of a visual story board.
Developing our work further, we will incorporate visual responses to our haiku poetry to create exciting abstract paintings.
