MOMENTS OF TRANSITION

A SOLO EXHIBITION OF WORK BY SUE HODGETTS

1st – 31st March 2025

‘Flow’ 91cm x 71cm by Sue Hodgetts

We are excited to present a whole new body of work by the very up and coming Dorset artist, Sue Hodgetts.

The paintings ‘Amazas’, ‘Fenils’ and ‘Moretta’ are inspired by the serene, snow-covered villages nestled in the Italian Alps. These villages, often small and seemingly timeless, evoke a sense of tranquility and isolation – qualities that are beautifully captured in these pieces. The works carry a sense of calm, almost as if they are paused in the stillness of winter, where the natural landscape takes on a quiet majesty.

As with these initial pieces, the four that Sue painted next – ‘Best Buddies’, ‘Ready for the Opera’, ‘The Quiet One’ and ‘Minutes either Way’ represent a deeper exploration into the construction of the canvas itself. This project focuses on building structure, allowing the form and paint texture to play a pivotal role in conveying meaning. The names of these pieces came to Sue during the final stages of their creation. Each title, rich in its own narrative, connects to the visual journey within the work.

The last four pieces in this series of works, ‘Equanimity’, ‘Liminal’, ‘Threshold’ and ‘Flow’ are marked by soft pink tones, drawing inspiration from a more abstract concept: the idea of “Liminal.” This term originates from the Latin word limen, meaning “threshold,” and it holds a powerful significance in both physical and metaphorical realms.

“Liminal” encapsulates a moment of transition – an in-between space where one is neither fully in one place nor the other. It’s the threshold of a new phase, a moment of reflection before a shift occurs. These works convey a quiet and almost mystical quality, inviting viewers to contemplate what lies on the other side of the threshold. They symbolize the ambiguity and possibility that arise in moments of solitude, when one stands at the edge of change, ready to move forward but still suspended in the quiet space of potential. This theme resonates deeply with the idea of being on the verge of something new, yet still rooted in the present.

Sue is our top recommendation for future investors, and with prices starting at just £575, there’s no better time to invest.
