ABOUT THE ARTIST

ALI KIPPAX

Ali holds a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art from Bristol, where she studied under the mentorship of the esteemed artist Paul Feiler. His influence, along with decades spent teaching Art & Design, has profoundly shaped both her technical skills and conceptual understanding. After a thirty-year career in education, she made the decision to fully commit to her artistic practice and become a full-time professional painter.

ALI KIPPAX’S PAINTINGS ARE A REFLECTION OF PLACE, PRESENCE, AND THE EVER-CHANGING DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE NATURAL ELEMENTS.

Ali Kippax grew up on The Wirral. Her visual world was shaped early on by the dynamic interplay between land and water—flanked by the Dee and Mersey rivers, and with North Wales’ mountainous coastlines just a short journey away. These formative landscapes ignited a lifelong dialogue with the natural world, a conversation that continues to unfold through her work. Regular visits to the wild North Cornwall coast have further enriched this relationship, becoming a consistent thread in her creative life as a painter.

Her work explores the elemental relationships between land, sea, and sky. The landscapes that inspired her in childhood continue to inform her energetic mark-making and gestural approach to paint. These early experiences of nature still resonate within each piece she creates.

Working on location is essential to her process. It enables an immediate, physical connection to the landscape that is intuitive and immersive. The raw honesty and vitality found in painting directly within nature cannot be replicated in the studio—it is this initial sensory response that drives the emotional and visual energy of her work. Striving to capture not just what is seen, but what is felt: the movement of air, the rhythm of the tide, the shifting light on land.

Ultimately, Ali’s paintings are a reflection of place, presence, and the ever-changing dialogue between the natural elements.
