‘Thames Curve Study’ by Jenny Pockley. Oil on copper, 41cm x 51cm framed.
Catching the Light
8th November – 21st December 2019
For the final Exhibition of our tenth celebratory year we have selected smaller works for the display. The opportunity to acquire a work on a more modest scale will appeal to those starting a collection as well as avid collectors who find themselves short of wall space! Precious, intimate, jewel- like pieces can be a delight and this exhibition is sure to captivate and enchant.
Included in the exhibition we are delighted to introduce the acclaimed artist, Jenny Pockley.
Jenny’s paintings whether of clouds, landscape or cities appear to be suspended in time; a mesmerising stillness, beautiful and ethereal, emanates from them. Wide ranging or aerial views controlled by the fall of light create deeply moving coloured atmospheres.
Brush marks or evidence of the artist’s activities are limited; the surface is smooth and softened to enhance the mystery in these works. The paintings gently stir the viewer’s emotions, assimilating memories and flights of the imagination. They verge on the abstract as the viewer becomes absorbed by the subtle play of colours reminiscent of Rothko.
The painting process relies on finely tuned colour and tonal modulation built up and softened using the ‘wet into wet’ process. The paint quality is made up of thin veils of colour which are washed onto an ultra-smooth gesso surface, the resultant paintings, quiet and mysterious, appear to hover. The materials and surfaces used are key to the work and add to its delicate timelessness, a quality further emphasised by the small scale of the paintings selected for this exhibition.
Jenny’s work is held in many International collections, she has won numerous awards and has been exhibiting since 1994.
